Solid Facts of Global Warming

Global Warming is probably mankind’s biggest threat for the future.  It is on the increase everyday and it is effecting more and more while its effects are accumulating every day.  Global Warming facts should be known by everybody, as prevention of global warming must start at the individual level and it must work its way up toward the governmental level. So let’s see these facts, so that we understand the effects and the causes of global warming more clearly.

 Global Warming is increasing the mean temperature of the world everyday.  This is also a cumulative effect as it causes the effect to be added on to each other.  According to NASA, the mean temperature of the planet has increased 0.82 degrees Celsius since the start of the Industrial Age around 1860’s.
 It is expected that global warming will increase the temperature of the world by as much as 5 degrees by the year 2090.
 The sea levels are rising slowly because of global warming.  As the mean temperature of the Earth increases, it causes glaciers and ice caps to melt.  This process is taking place even as we speak and it is expected that the world may see increase in the sea levels by as much as 25 meters by the end of the century.  This in turn will cause many coastal cities to be wiped out and evacuated.
 Global Warming is changing the climate and the seasons drastically.  According to various meteorology bureaus and also according to National Atmospheric and Oceanic Agency of the United States, the past twenty years have been the warmest years for the past millennia.  In fact, the last 12 years have been the warmest winters ever.
 By year 2040, it is expected that the Arctic Ice Circle will have an ice-free summer. (Which in turn will cause dramatic flooding etc and it will destroy the ecology of the Arctic including the Polar Bears)
 The Oceans of the world will become more acidic as the carbon dioxide is absorbed by the world’s oceans; it mixes with seawater to create a type of carbonic acid. Of course, this will cause the oceans to lose lots of species that depend on the stability of the water temperature.  Thus also due to this it is expected that more than %70 of the world reefs can be wiped out in a decade.
 More rivers and lakes in the African region and in the Amazon are drying to cause drastic changes in the environment.
 NASA and NOAA warn that due to global warming, the frequency of the hurricanes ha increased more than %100 per year.  This is especially linked to the rising temperature of the seas, which is triggered directly by global warming.
 Again, NASA and NOAA (National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration) warn that the flooding in the Northern Hemisphere will increase drastically.  This is mainly caused by global warming which affects the temperature differentials and the raining patterns of the Northern Hemisphere.  Higher temperatures with extra water vapor in the atmosphere cause heavy precipitation, which in turn can lead to flooding.
 More wildfires are caused by global warming as the mean temperatures rise, air becomes drier and hotter thus in turn fueling wild fires and forest fires.
 It is also expected that the heat waves will continue to increase by %7 every year.  Each heat wave will bring more deaths and diseases to especially elder people and people with cardiovascular problems.
 Because global warming is also causing warmer winters, this has caused the mosquito, mice, fleas, and tick to become more frequent and thus take part of spreading diseases around the world.  Especially diseases like Malaria and the plague are spread through mosquitoes and the world can face worldwide epidemics.
 Draught is increasing every day as the precipitation patterns are changing and most lakes and rivers are drying.  Many dams across the world due not have enough drinkable water supplies and there are water contingency plans all over the globe as most cities stop giving water everyday as the water supplies diminish.  As water is the basis of cleaning and living, it is expected that communicable diseases could rise by %18.6 by the next thirty years.

These global warming facts are worrisome, but global warming can be stopped with individual awareness.  Everyone should recognize their facts and take preventive measures for themselves and for their future generations.
