Global warming or the increased average global temperatures are caused by natural as well as human induced reasons. Though many people argue that there is no such thing as global warming, evidences are coming up from all parts of the world supporting the occurrence of global warming. Many people are conveniently ignoring the warning signs produced by the earth; the important evidence of global warming is the temperatures itself. The average temperature across the world is higher than the previous years. Many areas are experiencing the highest temperatures ever recorded. There is evidence that due to this rise in temperature even the polar ice caps have started to melt.

According to reports this is the warmest winter experienced in U.S. Evidences show that the combined land and ocean temperature has increased than the average. According to the opinion of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration the temperature of the earth is rising at a rate of a fifth of a degree every decade. the Inter governmental Panel on Climate Change or IPCC reports that human activities are causing global warming, and if the present rise in temperature continues, the sea-level will increase and the arctic summer sea- ice will disappear by the second half of this century. There are quite substantial evidences showing that the climate change like, prolonged summer seasons, the increased heat waves and regular tropical storms are all resulted by global warming caused by greenhouse gases.

Actually the evidences of global warming is visible even to the common man .They are experiencing the heat waves, intense, floods ,cyclones and decreased agricultural production, no matter where they are located in this world. The winter snow fall has reduced in many parts of the world than the previous years. There are pictorial evidences of melting polar caps and receding Himalayan glaciers. The desert area in Africa is spreading as it is evident from the aerial photo graphs of the desert. Tsunamis are become regular in occurrence. Tsunamis, hurricanes and floods are causing substantial damage to the life and possessions of the people around the world. All these changes are affecting the productivity of the earth. In many parts of the world people are starving, as agricultural practices are impossible due to non-availability of water or drought. Africa is a good example; the number of people starving in Africa has grown to large numbers due to the drought conditions prevailing there. If global warming continues, scientists are of opinion that the same scene can be seen in various other parts of the world also.

Another indication of global warming is the rapid spreading of vector borne diseases. Vectors like mosquitoes and house flies are increasing; as a result the diseases caused by them are also in the rise. Evidences show that the mosquitoes are getting much longer period for breeding as the summer season is getting prolonged due to global warming. The unpredictable weather conditions like hurricanes and rains provide standing water and wet or damp areas needed for the breeding of mosquitoes. Already diseases spread by mosquitoes like dengue, chicun-gunia and malaria is spreading in different parts of the world. There are evidences that the bird flu viruses get more active when temperature rise and the incidences of bird flu are rising every year.

Evidences show that fueled by global warming New York City has undergone severe changes in its precipitation pattern. There are evidences showing the place like Alaska is getting hotter and the natives have started wheat cultivation. In India, the Sunderbans, the largest mangrove forest has already lost its two islands because of the rising of sea level caused by global warming. The number of hot days is gone up in summer. Not only that the night minimum temperature has gone up in many places in the world  all these are  real evidences of increasing average global temperature or generally speaking the global warming. 

Thus global warming is not just a theory as some scientists put it; but it is a scientifically proven fact. If the carbon based fuels are not re placed with some cleaner alternatives like hydrogen the earth’s warming will continue. These will not only effect the global economy by different damages caused like famine, diseases, storms, hurricanes and tsunami but can devastate the world. They can cause extinction of different species and can accelerate mutations.

As there are sufficient evidences to prove global warming, many of the politicians have started to act against global warming and to slow down the warming effect caused by the green house gases. In 2002 pentagon has predicted that any changes in the earth’s climate will cause droughts in northern Europe and United States, which will lead to acute water and food scarcity. Typhoons and hurricanes will devastate low lying regions like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and many other Asian countries. And Africa is expected to be completely crippled with famine and vector borne diseases.  The evidences if global warming currently does not cause much threat to some people, but, if the conditions causing global warming continue to exist then the very existence of man kind will be questioned. So either you act now to prevent global warming or be ready to embrace the grave new world.
