Our planet is going through a period of
immense changes in the climate. The temperature of our planet
is increasing slowly and steadily .This condition is described
as global warming. The average normal temperature of the
planets atmosphere has increased in the past two decades.
According to the scientists the temperature has increased about
1degree Fahrenheit within the last century.
"The change in the earth’s
orbit or axis also causes changes in climate as well as
changes in temperature."
The main
hypothesis puts global warning as the culprit for this rise in
temperature. Changing human life styles causes an increased
emission of carbon di oxide and other green house gases in
earth’s atmosphere. Earth’s atmosphere has a particular amount
of carbon di oxide which is needed for keeping the planet warm
and to make life possible on earth. But large amount of green
house gases prevent the natural reflection of the heat energy
back to the space, and causes increased temperature within the
earth’s atmosphere.
Some scientists are of opinion that global climatic
changes and increased average temperature of the earth is
not caused by human activities, but by natural causes like
sunspot cycle and change in the axis or tilt of the
earth.morethan that, asteroid collisions spews out more dust
particles in to the atmosphere than one can imagine. The amount
of sulfur oxides, which is belched out of massive volcanic
eruptions, comes more than that produced by any human activity.
The explosions on the sun’s surface produces intense heat
energy, when this heat radiation reach the earth’s surface it
can cause increased temperature within the earth’s
atmosphere.
"The change in the earth’s
orbit or axis also causes changes in climate as well as
changes in temperature."
The change in the earth’s orbit or axis also causes changes
in climate as well as changes in temperature. Any change in the
axis of the earth makes the earth either to move towards the
sun or move away from the sun. If the planet earth move towards
the sun, the quantity of the heat rays reaching the earth will
be more, which will result in increased temperature patterns in
the earth’s atmosphere or we can say it as global warming.
There are many evidences showing that the drifting of
continents or the plate tectonics also can cause considerable
changes in the planet’s climate. Plate tectonics cause the
poles to get separated from warm ocean currents and affect the
global climate adversely.
Even though several natural causes are there,
the recent increase in the average global temperature is
attributed mainly to human activities. It is found that
the concentration of carbon di oxide in the atmosphere is
alarmingly increased in the past decade and it is still
rising.
the earth is not able to handle the excessive carbon di
oxide so it get circulated through the earth’s atmosphere .this
gas acts as a barrier to the reflected heat from the earth and
produces the green house effect, or increased temperature. More
than sixty percent of global warming is believed to be caused
by carbon di oxide.
The process of burning invariably emits carbon di oxide.
Burning fossil fuels like diesel, petrol, or gas is a major
carbon di oxide producer. The smoke emitted by various
industries and factories, coal fired electrical power plants,
using fire wood as fuel all add to the total carbon di oxide
levels. The rise of industries in the past decades has
dramatically increased the global warming by the emission of
various green house gases. As the trees are continuously felled
for industrial use and for building houses and sky-scrapers the
produced carbon di oxide remain in the atmosphere. It is not
converted to oxygen or not recycled in any way.
Another green house effect producing gas that causes global
warming is nitrous oxide .it produced when something undergo
decay. Nitrous oxide is also released during various
agricultural and industrial processes. Another major man made
cause for global warming is the CFC’s or scientifically known
as Chloro Fluro Carbons.
ChloroFluroCarbons are widely used in refrigerators and in
aerosol sprays. The chloro fluro carbons cause global warming
by damaging the ozone layer. The ozone layer is a protective
layer in the earth’s atmosphere which prevents the harmful
radiation of the sun from reaching the earth. The ozone layer
is already damaged by the indiscriminate use of various
chemicals by man.
Every year thousands of refrigerators
are dumped to the waste yard and million cans of aerosol sprays
are used every day in this affluent world, imagine the amount
of chloro fluro carbons released to the atmosphere by them!
Global warming is also caused by another green house effect
producing gas called methane. The release of methane occurs
naturally as well as due to human activities. Natural emission
of this green house gas is mainly from the marsh lands present
in this vast world.
Methane is commonly called as the ‘marsh gas’. Another
source of methane is the Arctic Tundra. This natural emission
of methane cannot be prevented by any methods. Dumped, decaying
garbage is a source of methane and cow dung also emits methane
.To some extent these methane can be made use as a fuel for
cooking purpose by setting up bio-gas plants which is fuelled
by cow dung or by bio-degradable waste.
To keep our earth an inhabitable place for the generations
to come, we should take necessary measures to prevent or reduce
the human induced causes of global warming.
